The National Intelligence Grid (NatGrid) has been linked to the National Population Register (NPR), which is filled with personal information of citizens.
Police and intelligence agencies use NatGrid as a repository of information, a government official was quoted as saying by an all-India news portal.
The National Population Register (NPR) contains information about 119 crore Indians. This NPR is the first step towards creating the National Register of Citizens (NRC). This technological connection will allow police and intelligence agencies to directly access any information contained in the NRC. Some experts believe that this move is intended to facilitate arbitrary surveillance of citizens.
Sources say that the Union Home Ministry is pressuring police and intelligence agencies of various states to use NATGRID. Although the database is under discussion, work on it started last year.
The National Population Register (NPR) was compiled in 2010. This was done in the initial phase of the 2011 Census. The NPR was revised in 2015. The NPR was scheduled to be revised again in the 2021 Census. However, the center suspended the census citing Covid reasons. @freemang2001gmail-com
