The Mona Lisa of Kumbh took shelter in Kerala with her husband.
When the chains of religious division stood in the way of their love, Monalisa Bhosle, who went viral at the Kumbh Mela, chose ‘God’s Own Country’ as a safe haven to start a new life. Mohammed Farman Khan, a resident of Maharashtra, and Monalisa, from Indore, chose each other as their life partners at the Sri Naina Dev Temple in Arumanur, Thiruvananthapuram.
Hundreds of people, forgetting caste and religious differences, witnessed this wedding at this temple founded by Sri Narayana Guru.
The newlyweds first went to the Thampanur police station and reported that Monalisa's family was opposing the marriage. Mohammad Farman is an actor. He worked with Monalisa in a film. They fell in love during the shooting. When the family opposed their relationship and pressured Monalisa to marry a relative, the couple decided to take legal action. Since Monalisa is over 18, the police informed her relatives that she has the legal right to live with the person of her choice. The couple said they chose Kerala for their wedding because it is a place that guarantees constitutional freedom. Speaking about their experience, the couple said, “We want to live together without fear, and for that there is no safer place in India than Kerala.
"In other states, our relationship would have faced extreme opposition. Here, no one asks about our religion; rather, they want to know if we are safe. The people here are as beautiful as this land and have given us a lot of support. We want to stay in Kerala and have no plans to return home for now."
After reaching Kerala, local youth organisations and volunteers arranged safe accommodation for the newlyweds. CPI(M) State Secretary M V Govindan, Kerala Government Education Minister V Sivankutty and CPI(M) MP A A Rahim, among others, attended the wedding to congratulate and support the newlyweds.
