CPI(M) vocal against NTA’s failure and NEP; demands scrapping of both systems.

Citing recent irregularities and flaws in the conduct of examinations within the country’s education system, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has reiterated its demand for the scrapping of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. In a statement issued on Monday, the party alleged that the recurring errors in examinations conducted by the NTA have exposed the weaknesses and mismanagement plaguing the nation’s education system.

The Polit Bureau has stated that the errors found in the question papers of the three NEET-UG exams conducted by the NTA are a matter of grave concern. The Polit Bureau has alleged that the NTA failed to discharge its responsibilities in conducting this crucial national-level examination. According to the party, such errors directly impact students’ futures and their opportunities for admission to higher education; therefore, ensuring transparency, accuracy, and accountability in the examination process is essential.

The CPI(M) alleges that instead of addressing the criticisms raised regarding the negative impact of the National Education Policy 2020, those who question it are being targeted. The statement also cites the killing of Mr. Mafik in Bankura, West Bengal, noting that he was targeted after highlighting infrastructural issues at a local school. The party has strongly condemned the murder and demanded the immediate arrest of those involved, as well as appropriate punishment for the perpetrators.

The CPI(M) has also placed special emphasis on infrastructural development in the education sector. The party asserts that both the central and state governments must ensure an adequate number of teachers, necessary infrastructure, and a conducive learning environment in all government educational institutions. It has been stated that, alongside strengthening the public education system, the government needs to focus on ensuring quality and accessible education for students.

The party has also demanded several reforms in the examination system. According to them, maintaining transparency and accuracy in conducting national-level examinations is of utmost importance. The CPI(M) has called for the establishment of an accountable and error-free system at every stage—from the setting of question papers to the conduct of exams and the publication of results.

The party maintains that student empowerment cannot be achieved merely through announcements, promises, or harsh measures. It requires improved educational infrastructure, an adequate number of teachers, a robust public education system, and a reliable examination process. The statement further emphasizes that the government must take practical and effective steps to secure the future of students.

Against this backdrop, the CPI(M) Politburo has once again demanded the scrapping of the NTA and the withdrawal of NEP 2020. Simultaneously, the party has called upon the central and state governments to take immediate, effective measures to improve the public education system and ensure transparency and accountability in the examination process.
