CPI(M) General Secretary M.A. Baby met with Aam Aadmi Party National Convener Arvind Kejriwal.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting on Sunday, September 27, Baby stated that the central agency ED has set out to harass former Kerala Chief Minister and CPI(M) Politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan. This agency of the BJP government had also attempted to implicate Kejriwal and his associates in false cases during his tenure as Delhi’s Chief Minister. Protests against these actions are currently underway in Kerala.Kejriwal has been invited to that event.
At the same time, he stated that the unlawful activities of the central Election Commission have been exposed—an allegation the opposition has repeatedly raised. In particular, the one-sided role played by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has become evident. It is essential to clearly highlight this unlawful conduct of the Election Commission to the public, and a concerted effort is required to do so. Discussions regarding this matter have also been held with Kejriwal.
A meeting of the opposition ‘INDIA’ bloc is scheduled for next Wednesday, September 30. Responding to a question on this matter, Baby stated, “We are aiming for ‘INDIA Plus’.” He advocated for the inclusion of various forces—currently outside this alliance—that are keen to join the struggle to safeguard the Constitution and democracy.
Baby had previously written to the parties within the ‘INDIA’ alliance, expressing his support for sustained activity regarding the bloc’s meetings and movements.
Speaking after a meeting at Kejriwal’s residence on Lodhi Road in Delhi today, Baby stated that the country is passing through a completely abnormal situation. The credibility of the Election Commission is eroding, and the nation’s democratic framework is in jeopardy. A movement needs to be intensified by forging coordination to safeguard constitutional rights and the right to vote.
