The ‘INDIA’ bloc will march towards the Election Commission’s office today to demand the removal of Gyanesh Kumar from the post of Chief Election Commissioner. The opposition will also call for ensuring a transparent and accountable electoral process. Furthermore, the ‘INDIA’ bloc will once again raise its voice demanding the scrapping of the SIR process.
Modifications were made to Form 6 under the SIR process. It was made mandatory to include the names of parents in the list for new registrations. However, the Election Commission took this decision without any amendment to the law. Despite repeated complaints regarding the SIR process in Bihar, the Supreme Court did not interfere with the Commission’s actions.
There are also strong allegations regarding the misuse of ‘Form 7’ for the deletion of names from the electoral roll. The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Karnataka had to address this issue today.
The Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) is required to hear the concerned voter if an application for name deletion is submitted; the ERO will then take action in accordance with the law after speaking with the individual. V. Anbukumar, the CEO of the Karnataka Election Commission, stated this while commenting on the large number of Form 7 applications being filed in the state.
In Karnataka, 91,278 applications have been submitted seeking the removal of names from the electoral roll; there are allegations that some of these were pre-filled forms. Additionally, notices have been issued to 4 million individuals because their names were missing from the voter list prepared during the previous Integrated Revision (IR) exercise.
It has been learned that the AAP will not participate in the joint opposition rally on Tuesday, though it will continue its agitation demanding the removal of Gyanesh Kumar.
