After drawing attention with its protest in Delhi, the Cockroach Janta Party held its second demonstration in Pune on June 11. Gathering at Savitribai Phule Pune University, members of the protesters demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, alleging that repeated controversies around examinations and recruitment processes have eroded students’ trust in the system.
The protest centred on concerns over the conduct of competitive exams and the broader state of education governance in the country. Alongside the demonstration, the group also unveiled its ‘education manifesto’, which it says advocates greater transparency, accountability and reforms in examination and recruitment mechanisms. While the full manifesto is yet to be made publicly available, organisers described it as a blueprint for restoring faith in India’s education system.
With Pune marking its second on-ground mobilisation after Delhi, the collective appears to be expanding its campaign from an online phenomenon into a wider youth-led movement.
