CPI(M) General Secretary MA Baby has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the cooking gas crisis in the country. He has demanded that immediate action be taken to curb the black marketing of cooking gas. Gas supply to students' hostels should be ensured to prepare essential food. Edible oil prices should be controlled. The livelihood of gig workers who deliver food through apps is in crisis. They should be given adequate compensation. The CPI(M) general secretary has demanded that the interests of small restaurants be protected. The media, busy in praising Modi, is busy promoting the achievements of the Prime Minister even in these difficult times. The statement made by Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in Parliament also shows that the government is successfully handling the crisis. The Prime Minister has opened alternative routes by talking to various countries. It is being claimed that there is no shortage in the supply chain. The problem is that the demand has increased abnormally. But in different parts of the country, people are facing the exact opposite situation. In the letter, Baby said, "A large section of the people of our country are facing problems due to shortage of cooking gas. The US-Israeli war with Iran is disrupting the supply of gas, including petroleum. However, it appears that the government has failed to stockpile sufficient gas in our country." He said, "The US-Israeli aggression on Iran has disrupted the energy supply chain. As a result, people are suffering severely. The government has increased the prices of cooking gas cylinders, both subsidized and non-subsidized. The people are already under a heavy burden due to the increase in prices. The increase in gas prices has further increased it. Then people are facing an acute shortage of cooking gas. "Gas cylinders made for domestic use are being sold at prices ranging from Tk 1,500 to Tk 4,000 due to black marketing. The government should immediately take steps to stop black marketing. Ensure that gas reaches those who are in the most difficult situation." Baby wrote, "Student hostels in some places have been closed due to gas shortage. The situation is being managed by cutting down the food menu in various hostels. Instead of proper food, only pulses or vegetables are being served. In some places, students have been sent home again. The government must ensure the supply of cooking gas to student hostels." Baby writes that the cooking gas crisis is also creating a livelihood crisis in many places. Various restaurants, office canteens are being closed. The income of those who deliver food to the homes of gig workers is also being disrupted. The p rice of electrical cooking appliances has increased. Even the price of wood fuel has increased. The price of edible oil has also increased.
