‘Intellectual Naxal’ : Modi’s aim is to attack Left-Democratic forces, says M.A. Baby.

The BJP government at the Centre seeks to attack Left-democratic forces; it aims to launch an attack whenever questions are raised. That is precisely why Prime Minister Narendra Modi used the term “Dimagi Naxal” (intellectual Naxal) in his Independence Day speech.
CPI(M) General Secretary M.A. Baby issued this warning in response to Modi’s speech at the Red Fort.

Veteran CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat has stated that the right to protest or express dissent is enshrined in the Constitution. Modi is attempting to attack this right by labeling people “urban Naxals.”

Modi’s remarks about “intellectual Naxals” during his Independence Day speech on August 15 have sparked intense discussion across all quarters. Following protests by students and youth at Jantar Mantar, Dharmendra Pradhan had to step down as Union Education Minister. However, Union Home Minister Amit Shah did not provide an account in Parliament regarding the police’s conduct in Delhi on July 20. In fact, since the events of July 20, Shah has not attended either House of Parliament during the session. The movement that began at Jantar Mantar has since spread across the entire country.

Baby stated that, on one hand, the government claims the problem of Maoist violence has been eliminated; yet, on the other, the Prime Minister speaks of “intellectual Naxalites” (dimagi Naxal). This implies that the government intends to focus on those who are Maoists or Naxalites in terms of ideology, with the Prime Minister even suggesting their isolation from society.

Baby states that while we have witnessed allegations of extrajudicial killings carried out under the guise of apprehending Maoists, the current move to identify Maoists based on ideology is essentially a ploy to unleash a massive assault on Left-democratic forces. Modi wants to shut down any source of questioning.

Meanwhile, senior CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat has also raised questions regarding Modi’s speech. She remarked that Modi spoke on issues where everyone knows he has failed. He made no mention of the country’s working class. She pointed out that the introduction of a new law replacing ‘REGA’ in villages has resulted in work being halved within just one month—a matter he did not address at all.

Karat states that 32,000 farmers have committed suicide over the past three years. What kind of prosperity is the Prime Minister talking about? He speaks of wanting to pass the Women’s Reservation Bill, yet that bill has already been passed. He has now attached a condition regarding delimitation to it—a move aimed at holding elections to suit their own convenience—and is passing this off as the Women’s Bill. If the government truly wants women’s reservation, it can implement it right now.

Karat states that horrific attacks are being carried out against the Adivasis. Instead of being preserved, forest areas are being destroyed. In Chhattisgarh, 700,000 trees are being felled for Adani’s coal mine; forests are being cleared, and the process continues despite opposition from the Adivasis.
