Jitu Munda on his way to Grameen Bank carrying the skeleton of his dead sister on his shoulders.
The deceased sister had a deposit of twenty thousand rupees. Forty-two-year-old Jitu Munda could not withdraw the money from the bank. Jitu, who was suffering from poverty, desperately went to the bank with the skeletal remains of his sister. A tribal man has gone to the Grameen Bank with the skeleton of his deceased sister on his shoulders. The incident took place last Monday in Dayanali village of Keonjhar district of Odisha.
Forty-two-year-old Jitu Munda reached the Odisha Grameen Bank branch on Monday afternoon to pick up his sister's body from the cremation ground. It is learnt that Jitu's sister had returned to her grandfather after the death of her husband and only son. Jitu's sister also died about two months ago. Before her death, she had opened a savings account in the bank branch and used to deposit money in it regularly. After his sister's death, Jitu went to the bank with the passbook to withdraw money from the account. But according to bank officials, he did not inform them that his sister had died. He could not withdraw the money even after going to the bank several times. The bank told Jitu that he could withdraw money from the account only if his sister was present as the depositor. A bank official said that we asked him to bring proof of his sister's legal heir.
Jitu understood that his sister needed to be physically present to withdraw the money, so he returned to the village, removed the body from the grave, wrapped it in plastic, and brought it to the bank. The bank staff found the body and informed the local police. The police arrived at the scene. The police and bank officials assured him that arrangements would be made to withdraw the necessary money from his sister's account, after which he returned to the village with the remains and reburied them. @freemang2001gmail-com
