Big surprise in the Tamil Nadu assembly. Vijay's party TVK is leading in 104 of the 234 seats in Tamil Nadu. Actor Vijay Thalapathy left the acting world and founded his political party TVK in 2024. Vijay's big success came after he stepped into the political world. Vijay himself contested in these two seats, Perambur in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli East in South Tamil Nadu. Along with the party, he himself is moving towards success.
In other words, it is only a matter of time before the winning party forms the government in Tamil Nadu. Again, AIADMK is leading in 60 seats and DMK is leading in 48 seats.
Congress extends conditional support to Vijay's TVK to form government in Tamil Nadu
Congress extends conditional support to Vijay's TVK to form government in Tamil Nadu
The Congress has announced its support to actor Vijay's new party Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) to form the government in Tamil Nadu. However, there is a condition behind this. The Congress has demanded that "communal forces" be kept away from this alliance.
AICC leader in charge of Tamil Nadu Girish Chodnakar said in a statement that the Tamil Nadu Pradesh Congress Committee and the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) have decided to extend full support to TVK to form the government.
"Our support is conditional," the statement said. "Any communal force that does not believe in the Constitution of India must keep TVK away from this alliance." The alliance with the Congress has brought Vijay's support by five more MLAs. This, added to his party's 107 seats, takes TVK's total to 112. He still needs the support of six more MLAs to form a government in Tamil Nadu beyond the majority mark.
Vijay has already contacted the VCK, CPI and CPI(M) to find an alliance partner. If they decide to support him, TVK will get the support of 119 MLAs, one seat more than the magic figure.
The Congress said in a statement that its alliance with TVK is based on mutual respect and shared responsibility between the two parties. The party said, "This is not only for the formation of this government, but also for the local body elections, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha elections in the future."
The statement further added, "Vijay and Rahul Gandhi are jointly committed to honouring this historic verdict of the people of Tamil Nadu for a secular and progressive government and fulfilling the dreams and promises of the people, especially the youth of Tamil Nadu."
Leftists demand that Vijay be given a chance to prove his majority in the assembly
Two Left parties have demanded that TVK leader Vijay be given a chance to prove his majority in the assembly. CPI and CPI(M) have simultaneously said that both parties are with DMK.
The Governor is not clear whether he will give TVK leader Vijay a chance to form the government. Vijay met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar again at the Lok Bhavan in Tamil Nadu on Thursday. However, the Governor did not give a specific position.
CPI(M) and CPI will hold separate meetings on Friday. Discussions will also be held with the other party VCK. The Leftists say that the right place to prove majority is within the assembly. If Vijay is given a chance, the 'floor test' will make it clear how many MLAs are on his side in the assembly.
In the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, the party won 108 out of 234 seats. However, it needs a majority of 118 seats to form the government. In the post-poll situation, the Congress supported the victory. As a result, 113 MLAs supported the victory, including 5 Congress MLAs. On the other hand, the DMK won 59 seats, the AIADMK 47, the PMK 4, the IUML 2, the CPI 2, the VCK 2 and the CPI(M) 2 seats. The BJP, the DMDK and the AMMK won 1 seat each.
In this situation, CPI(M), CPI have 6 MLAs with a total of 4 seats and VCK 2 seats. Now the political circles are eyeing all three parties.
Various questions have arisen regarding the position of the Governor in Tamil Nadu. According to the tradition, if there is no absolute majority, the Governor invites the largest party or alliance to form the government. Then the majority has to be proved in the assembly. Till Thursday evening, no other party has claimed to form the government. So why did the Governor not clarify the delay in deciding to give Vijay a chance to prove his majority. However, various sources in his office told the media that the Governor is still not sure about the victory margin.
