DU, JNU, BHU : Nepal Prime Ministers Who Studied From India

After the fall of KP Sharma Oli’s government in Nepal, Sushila Karki has been selected as the interim PM. She had studied master’s in political science from BHU in 1975.

In Nepal, the government earlier mandated that all social media platforms register under the nation’s Information and Telecommunications Act. However, the social media companies did not comply with this directive. Consequently, the Nepali government imposed a ban on these platforms. This action sparked outrage, especially among the youth, who responded with widespread protests. Demonstrators took to the streets with slogans accusing the government of deep-rooted corruption, arguing that it was corruption, not social media, that deserved to be banned. The capital city, Kathmandu, quickly became the centre of the unrest. Following these events, Nepal PM KP Oli resigned.

Former Chief Justice of Nepal, 73-year-old Sushila Karki has now been selected as the next interim Prime Minister of the country. Karki had obtained a master’s degree in political science from Banaras Hindu University in 1975. She was the topper in her class. She started practicing law in Biratnagar in 1979. Born in 1954, Baburam Bhattarai served as the 36th Prime Minister of Nepal from August 2011 to March 2013. He completed his schooling at Amar Jyoti High School in Luintel, Gorkha, and Amrit Science College.
