The CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued a statement criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to Israel. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has termed the Prime Minister's visit as a "gross betrayal of the interests of Palestine". In a statement issued by the party on Wednesday, the foreign policy of the Modi government has been put on the table.
The CPI(M) said that the visit is taking place at a time when Israel is carrying out a genocide in Gaza. The statement said that despite the ceasefire, Israel is carrying out daily attacks on Gaza, resulting in the loss of lives of numerous Palestinian civilians. The Benjamin Netanyahu government is also continuing its attacks on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and the establishment of illegal settlements.
According to the Politburo, through this visit, the Indian government is actually trying to legitimize Netanyahu's "murderous" government in the international arena.
The statement further claimed that the real purpose of this visit is to deepen military and strategic ties with an imperialist power like Israel. According to the CPI(M), "Israel is working towards establishing dominance in the Middle East with the help of America. This move by India is extremely unfortunate and indecent, especially at a time when America is preparing a military attack on Iran at the instigation of Israel."
The CPI(M) alleged that through this visit, the BJP government has once again proven that it has surrendered to the 'US-Israeli axis' in West Asia. The Polit Bureau also claimed that the Centre is insulting the struggle of the Palestinian people by reversing India's long-standing pro-Palestinian stance.
