There are two freedom fighters from the RSS.

Yes. There are two freedom fighters who came from the RSS. And precisely because they wanted to fight for independence, they grew disillusioned with the RSS—an anti-national organization—and joined the Communist Party. Both of them were, in fact, top-tier leaders within the RSS, not merely ordinary pracharaks (full-time workers).

In 1929, at a meeting held at the Doke Math in Nagpur, Hedgewar was appointed Sarsanghchalak (supreme leader) of the RSS, and Balaji Huddar was named General Secretary. In 1931, while involved in the struggle against the British, Huddar was arrested in connection with the Balaghat conspiracy case. The RSS did not come forward to seek the release of its top leader; instead, it distanced itself from him—a move intended to demonstrate loyalty to the British Raj. In 1935, Huddar moved to London. From London and Spain, he continued to work toward India’s independence, and it was in Spain that he witnessed the aggressive nature of fascism firsthand. By then, he had become a communist. However, due to his personal acquaintance with Hedgewar, Netaji asked Huddar to arrange a meeting for him with Hedgewar. Hedgewar, citing various excuses, avoided meeting Netaji. By this time, Huddar had developed a deep-seated aversion toward the RSS. In 1940, Balaji Huddar joined the Communist Party and spent the rest of his life dedicated to the struggles of the working people in Nagpur. One of his key roles within the Communist Party involved explaining Marxism in simple, accessible language to people through various study circles across Nagpur.

The second individual is Deshraj Goyal. An RSS swayamsevak (volunteer) since his school days, he eventually became a full-time pracharak (organizer) for the organization in Punjab. However, the RSS betrayed him—a man whose true aspiration was the liberation of his nation. In 1947, filled with intense loathing, Goyal left the RSS and joined the Communist Party. He later played an extraordinary role in the struggle against communalism. In his writings, he exposed the sordid underbelly of the RSS. As a dedicated member of the Communist Party, he spent his entire life fighting for secularism. In the books RSS, Bulwark of Militant Communalism (1975) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (1979), he documented the RSS’s acts of treason and religious hatred.

It is true that there were two freedom fighters from the RSS. However, while the early part of the lives of these two exceptionally courageous patriots was spent within the RSS, the vast majority of their lives was spent in the Communist Party. For every patriotic, humanitarian freedom fighter, the Communist Party served as their final destination. This is an undeniable truth. The list is quite long—too extensive to complete here.
