TVK leader Vijay gets Governor's nod. He is going to take oath at 11 am on Saturday. The deadlock in Tamil Nadu has ended after CPI(M) and CPI informed the Governor in writing of their decision to support him.
Although Vijay got the most seats in the Tamil Nadu elections, he was a few seats short of the majority in the assembly. The governor used that as a tool. He did not give Vijay a chance to prove his majority in the assembly.
CPI(M) General Secretary MA Baby also made it clear that the largest party should be given a chance to prove its majority in the Assembly, not in the Governor's house. The CPI(M) and the Left are taking a role in breaking the deadlock. With the Congress supporting Vijay, his support reached 113. The support of 117 MLAs was required for a majority. The support of 2 MLAs from CPI(M), 2 MLAs from CPI and 1 MLA from VCK was confirmed today.
Along with the Congress, the two Left parties are contesting the assembly elections in alliance with the DMK. The CPI(M) has said that it is not considering breaking ties with the DMK.
Meanwhile, DMK's Lok Sabha leader Kanimozhi has written to the Speaker requesting him to make arrangements to sit separately from the Congress. There is also keen interest in the political circles as to where the Congress-DMK alliance will go.
The CPI(M) Tamil Nadu State Committee said in a statement that by not inviting Joseph Vijay to form the government despite being the single largest party, the Governor has shown that he is not taking a neutral stance. The Governor has ignored long-standing tradition and the verdict of the judiciary. The CPI(M) wants to ensure that President's rule is not imposed. That the BJP cannot enter the government through the back door. That is why it is necessary to support Joseph Vijay's Tamilga Vajrathri Kazhagam (TVK). This decision is to defeat the undemocratic efforts of the Governor. At the same time, the CPI(M) has said that it will not participate in the government. It will only provide support from outside.
