- In his letter, Comrade Brittas pointed out that the trust was constituted through a Government-approved scheme pursuant to the Supreme Court’s Ayodhya judgment, established by a Union government notification, vested with land acquired under a Parliamentary enactment, and continues to have institutional representation from both the Union government and the Uttar Pradesh government. These features give the trust a clear public character and warrant its inclusion within the RTI framework.
Comrade Brittas further stated that bringing the Trust under the RTI Act would not interfere with its religious autonomy, but would strengthen transparency and accountability in matters such as governance, financial administration, utilisation of donations and the award of contracts. He urged the Home Ministry to revise its position and take appropriate action in order to enhance public confidence in the functioning of the trust.9h
