Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had strongly criticised the Left government during the campaign for the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections. Now, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has given a strong response to him. In a Facebook post, Vijayan said that the Telangana Chief Minister has been given 'wrong information'. He alleged that he is ignoring Kerala and its people by hiding the weaknesses of his state.
Vijayan wrote in his post, "By conveniently avoiding the issue of bulldozing the homes of the poor in his own state, he is trying to educate Kerala on social progress and public welfare. It is clear that someone has given him serious misinformation."
Inviting the Telangana Chief Minister to come to Kerala to learn about Kerala's welfare model, he said that Kerala is moving forward through sustainable and inclusive development.
Dismissing allegations of corruption and administrative failure against the Kerala government, Vijayan said that Kerala is one of the cleanest states in the country. Citing government statistics, he presented a comparative picture of the two states. Vijayan said that according to the NITI Aayog Sustainable Development Index (2023-24), Kerala is at the first position with 79 points, while Telangana is at the sixth position.
In terms of poverty rate, according to NITI Aayog data, Kerala has a poverty rate of just 0.55 percent (which is the lowest in India). On the other hand, in Telangana, the rate is 5.88 percent. In terms of literacy rate, Kerala has a literacy rate of 95.3 percent, which is much higher than that of Telangana (76.9 percent).
In terms of infant mortality rate, Kerala has a child mortality rate of just 5 per 1,000 live births. Vijayan points out that in Telangana, the rate is almost four times higher. In terms of life expectancy, the average life expectancy of a Malayali is 5 to 7 years higher than that of an average Indian, due to a strong healthcare system.
Vijayan questioned, "When his own government is trying to learn from various initiatives in Kerala, how can the Chief Minister himself mock them? What greater political hypocrisy can there be?"
Revanth Reddy had claimed that the Kerala government was in collusion with the Centre. Rejecting this allegation outright, Vijayan instead blamed the Congress. He said that the Congress had failed to oppose many central policies that were crippling the states financially. The Kerala assembly elections are on April 9. On that occasion, Revanth Reddy had come to campaign in support of UDF candidates and raised his voice against the Vijayan government. He alleged that the Kerala government is silent even though several important development projects, including the construction of national highways, have been stalled in the state.
