Bruno Rodriguez greets at Harkishen Singh Surjit Bhavan in Delhi on Saturday.
We will remain faithful to the ideas of Jose Marti. We will remain faithful to the struggle of Fidel and Che Guevara. No matter how terrible the American blockade, Cuba knows that it has friends all over the world.
This was the message given by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez at a solidarity program at Harkishen Singh Surjit Bhavan in Delhi on Saturday. He came to India to attend the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting The meeting was chaired by Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. He later participated in other programs as well.
Speaking at a solidarity event at HKS Bhavan today, Rodriguez said, “Cuba is not alone. There are multiple countries in this world that are the targets of imperialist attacks.” He said, “We have a long history of solidarity with the people of India. Every voice of solidarity raised by the Indian people reaches Havana.”
The administration of US President Donald Trump has imposed a total embargo on Cuba. The US has stated its goal of direct regime change. The US has repeatedly attempted to endanger socialist Cuba.
The Ministry of Transport said in Havana on Saturday that special plans have been put in place to deal with the fuel crisis. The transport of fuel, food, medicine and essential equipment will be the most important. Buses from Havana to the provincial capital will now operate reduced to three days a week. Buses to the two eastern cities will operate only one day a week. Train services will remain in place until mid-June.
The Cuban Ministry of Transport has said that the provincial government will consider the matter as a priority. Because the fuel crisis is acute. Even in this situation, Rodriguez said in Delhi today, we are carrying on the legacy of Fidel Castro.
At the international level, there are movements in different parts of Cuba’s solidarity. I appeal to strengthen this movement. He said, Cuba will not bow its head. We know that we have friends all over the world.
At the BRICS meeting in Delhi, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that aid will be provided to Cuba. The aid will be provided despite the American blockade.
At the BRICS meeting, Rodriguez said that Cuba is facing a humanitarian disaster due to the blockade. Due to the fuel blockade, everything from electricity generation to routine services is being disrupted. There is no electricity for hours, as a result, water supply is not being provided regularly. 12,000 children need surgery right now. It is not being done. He also appealed to the BRICS countries to take a role against imposing military aggression on Cuba.
India is chairing the BRICS this year. But the two countries involved in this multinational grouping are silent on the US occupation of Iran or Cuba. The CPI(M) has demanded that the Modi government condemn the US role.
