The family of a bishop of a church in Arambagh has been attacked by the communal forces of the Sangh Parivar on false charges of forced conversion. A few days ago, Bishop Anil Kumar Bhowmik and his wife were allegedly beaten up by Hindutva activists during a Sunday prayer. The General Secretary of the CPI(M) has contacted the victim bishop and condemned the attack and assured that party workers will stand by his family.
During the BJP’s rule, attacks on religious minorities are taking place in various parts of the country. Not only Muslims, but also people from the Christian community are not spared. Recalling the incident of burning a Christian missionary in Odisha in the past, many religious institutions of the Christian community have expressed concern over the increasing attacks.
There was no precedent of attacks on minorities in West Bengal, there was a tradition of harmony here. But recently there have been allegations of attacks on Christian religious places of worship in several places in this state too. In a post on the X handle on Tuesday, MA Baby said, ‘I spoke to Bishop Anil Kumar Bhowmik, who was attacked in Arambagh. He and his wife were dragged from Sunday prayers and beaten up by Sangh Parivar goons.They attacked on false charges of forced conversion. The local police did not take any action against the attackers. Communal Hindutva extremists are attacking places of worship of minorities to destroy the secular fabric of India. We appeal to all democratic-minded people to raise their voice against this attack and come forward to keep the bonds of communal harmony and friendship between people intact.
