The opposition ‘INDIA’ bloc has directly targeted the Prime Minister and the Home Minister over allegations of vote rigging. Speaking from the stage at Ramlila Maidan, Rahul Gandhi—the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha—reiterated that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar must face imprisonment for treason. He further asserted that Narendra Modi and Amit Shah will also have to face justice.
In reality, the speeches delivered by figures ranging from M.A. Baby and Dipankar Bhattacharya to Akhilesh Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav contained direct attacks on the BJP’s rule. Following the gathering at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on Sunday, November 1, the BJP has begun calculating the size of the crowd. The party even had one of its national spokespersons state that the turnout did not reach one million—claiming that the venue was sparsely populated and the event was a flop.
Echoing the narrative of the BJP-RSS, Patra addressed Rahul, saying, “This country does not belong to your ‘Abbujaan’ (father); it belongs to the people of Hindustan.” Meanwhile, BJP president Nitin Navin has announced that the BJP will hold public meetings across various states under the slogan, “Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy.” He himself will be present at a public meeting in Haryana this coming Sunday.
The nation is in an uproar over the mass deletion of names through the SIR (Systematic Identification and Removal) process and a series of irregularities in the Election Commission’s operations. This sentiment was clearly visible at the ‘INDIA’ alliance’s public meeting at Ramlila Maidan. Names were removed indiscriminately, even when all necessary documentation was in place. The Election Commission itself created and submitted ‘self-generated’ Form-7 applications. In many instances, names have been removed from the electoral rolls without providing the voters an opportunity to offer an explanation. The validity of these unilateral deletions—carried out under the pretext of “logical discrepancies” and following changes to Form-6 (the application form for inclusion of names)—has been challenged in court. In fact, the other two Election Commissioners have raised questions on various issues through 14 separate letters sent over a ten-month period. It has emerged that these decisions were taken unilaterally by Gyanesh Kumar. There is significant resentment—ranging from the Booth Level Officer (BLO) level up to the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) level—regarding these unilateral directives, which are perceived as being driven by the Modi-Shah duo.
The BJP has made no attempt to provide any explanation for all of this. The act of stripping away the right to vote has shaken various sections of the nation, including those who support the BJP.
Rahul has stated that the country’s Constitution and democracy will not be allowed to be destroyed. It is not just one political party saying this; all of us in the opposition are saying it—as are students, the youth, women, workers, and farmers. He remarked that stealing votes is not like any other form of theft; to take away a person’s right to vote is to silence them completely. In legal terms, this is what is called ‘the rarest of the rare’. He says, Narendra Modi is not going anywhere. Even if he wants to, we will not let him go.
